I Can’t Think Of Anything!

Have you ever had the situation where you want to write something, but you can’t think of anything to write about? Well, don’t worry. You are not the only one. I can’t think of anything to write about when I’m in the mood to write something as well. Sometimes when you’re in the perfect mood to write something, you run out of ideas. This is the most annoying thing in the history of writing. Sometimes if I can’t think of anything to write, I ask for suggestions from my parents or siblings. Even if the suggestions are really crazy or weird, they are suggestions. I once got a suggestion to write about something which is really crazy. So I didn’t note it down. Now I regret it because I want to write something crazy and funny. So don’t do the same mistake as me. The suggestions you get are the most important things in your life which you should follow.

The Life Of A Bullied Dragon

This year there was a “ Create your own storybook” competition. It was for years 3- 4 and 5-6. I was in year 6 so I participated. I was so enthusiastic to write about something great so I took a few papers, a pen and a pad to write on. I went to sit up on my top bunk and brainstormed ideas. I didn’t know what to write until I thought to myself- “ I should write about something that I like to read about.” Since I like fantasy and imaginary characters, I started to write about that. I like dragons and I absolutely adore them so, a dragon turned out to be my book’s main character.

Mind Maps

To figure out the rest of the story I had to ask my dad for help. He said, “ Make a mind map which will help you figure out your story.” A mind map is where you start with a simple character or place. And you develop it by adding more to it. And then you put it into a sequence to understand your properly built piece. With this mind map, I knew what I was doing. So if you don’t know what to write about, draw a mind map to help you direct where to start and how to start. A mind map can start with anything as long as you keep adding on to your previous ideas. And in no time, you would have come up with something to write about. After using the mind map to help me figure out my story, I also used it to help me figure out my story’s title! It took me a long time to figure it out but eventually, I named my first book- “ THE  LIFE  OF  A  BULLIED  DRAGON”

Lateral thinking

If mind mapping doesn’t work for you, there is always “Lateral Thinking.”.  One of Lateral Thinking’s effective ways to help you get a topic is…. to have a bunch of books which have words in front of you. You then have to close your eyes and chose a random book which is in front of you. After choosing a book with your eyes closed, open a random page and point to a section of that page. When you then open your eyes, your finger would have pointed to a random word. With that word try to think of something related to the word or another word that sounds like it. This will help you come up with so many brilliant ideas which you would love to write about.

Problems

Do you have any problems? I bet everyone does. I also know that there is at least one problem that you are happy to share with people. If you do have a problem, you can write about that as well. This blog falls into this category and I reckon this blog has worked out well, don’t you think? Sometimes there are small problems and the other times they are big. But as long as you are happy with sharing your problem with others, it’s fine to write about it. I like to write about problems that I feel people can relate to. This technique can work out very well though it may be hard to find a problem like that. My dad also writes these blogs, and his first one was a problem, just like mine! Guess this also runs in the family. Make sure you check out his blogs as well here.

Not knowing what to write about when you are in the mood to write something can be really frustrating. I know exactly how this feels because I’ve been through this situation a lot of times. But each time I use some of these techniques which include:- Mind Maps, Lateral Thinking, writing about problems, etc. These things have helped me get further and further with all my writing pieces. I hope these techniques work for you too! Oh, make sure you leave me some suggestions for my next blog too!
